The sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) is the largest toothed whale and the largest predator on Earth by mass. Males can exceed 18 meters in length, with a massive head that makes up about a third of the body. It is known for producing the loudest sound in the animal kingdom clicks reaching up to 230 decibels used for echolocation in the deep sea. Sperm whales are expert divers, capable of descending to depths beyond 2,000 meters in search of prey.
