More model informationThis is a spindle whorl; its weight helped give the spindle momentum in the twisting, or spinning, of fibres into yarn, for later making into textiles.This object was found in a pile-dwelling site on the shores of Lake Bourget in France and acquired by the collector G.B. Rossi at the end of the 19th century. Several archaeological sites, dating to the end of the Bronze Age, from 3000 years ago, and sometimes combining several phases of occupation, are currently known in this area.
