I’m not sure if it’s based on a historical piece, but the design implies it’s probably well after the Mary Rose sword but before the Jacobite Rebellion, as it features very established basket form but still having the huge but hollow globular pommel. With the tendency to increase basket size and decrease blade width for regimental basket hilt broadswords after the Jacobite Rebellion, this sword is of course very different. Combined with the wide blade and a basket that just barely covers your hand, it has this distinct powerful vibe.
Scottish and English basket hilt sword blades are direct descedents of that of late Medieval arming swords. But by this time the blades were mostly quite thin (~5mm) that gradually tapers toward the tip. Many of them kept their width until the tip, making them powerful cutters.
