More model informationThe SS Chirripo was a cargo liner that was built in Belfast and acquired by Elders & Fyffes in 1906 as part of their fleet used in the banana trade. She measured 374.3 x 47.8 x 29.5ft wide and weight about 4000 tons.The SS Chirriop sank on the 28th of December 1917 southeast of Black Head Lighthouse while heading out from Belfast after she was torpedoed by a mine from a German UC-75 submarine. The entire crew was rescued, and there were no casualties.
