SS SALAMINIA, CARGO VESSEL. 1918
Shipwreck off the east coast of Ireland, around 31km east of Skerries.
SS Salaminia, built by J. Readhead & Sons, South Shields in 1897 and owned at the time of her loss by Embiricos & Drosopulos Maritime Co. Ltd., Andros, was a Greek steamer of 3112 tons. On March 30th, 1918, Salaminia, on a voyage from Barrow to Barry Roads in ballast, was shelled by the German submarine UB-64 (Otto von Schrader).
On 31st March, she was found by HMY Greta, abandoned and with dead crew on board. She was subsequently scuttled at 2 a.m.
