Headless statue of Athena with its plinth. It was found in 1835 on the Acropolis, near the south walls. It probably constitutes a copy of an original creation of the 5th cent. BC made in Roman times.
The goddess is supporting her weight on her right foot and slightly bending her left. She is dressed in a high belted peplos and a, diagonally worn, aegis that has small snakes on its edges and a Gorgon head nested between her breasts. Her neck is adorned by a double necklace while two drilled holes on her belt would have served for the insertion of a metal ornament. A few curls from her long hair can be seen high on her back.
