Cristina Trivulzio di Belgiojoso (1808-1871) was a noble dame from the aristocracy of Milan. A princess, a journalist, a traveller, a feminist and a patriot of the Italian revolutionary movement in Milan against the Austro-Hungarian Empire. For what she has done, the city of Milan dedicated to her this statue in 2021, the first ever dedicated to a woman. Made by Giuseppe Bergomi she is represented sitting on a cube, symbolizing rationality, while writing. Written on the cube, one of her more emblematic sentences: “May the happy and honored women of future times turn their thoughts bit by bit to the sorrows and humiliations of the women who preceded them in life, and recall with some gratitude the names of those who opened and prepared for them the way to the never before enjoyed, perhaps barely dreamed of, happiness! ”
