John III was the King of Portugal and the Algarves from 13 December 1521 to 11 June 1557. He was responsible for the transfer of the University from Lisbon to Coimbra, in 1537. This statue was comissioned in 1944 and is located in the Royal Palace of the University of Coimbra.
