More model informationSakhmet is a fierce lion-headed goddess. Made around 1390 BC, this statue is one of hundreds from Amenhotep III’s time. Sakhmet had a fierce temper and was once tricked into drinking beer dyed red to look like blood to calm her down–when she woke, she became the goddess Hathor. This statue is on display at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York where I photographed to be part of the tour of the Great Sphinx of Giza: https://giza.mused.com/en/guided/438/great-sphinx
