STB-1 - Japanese main battle tank of the 1970s. Designed by “Mitsubishi” in the years 1962-1973 and put into service in 1975. Serially produced from 1975 to 1988, total production amounted to 873 copies. Before the start of serial production of the tank Type 90 in 1990, it was the most advanced tank Japan Self-Defense Forces. As for 2010, as part of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces still there were 560 tanks of this type. [5]
In addition to the base of the tank, also produced a number of specialized machines based on it. Engineering tanks on the basis of Type 74 was used as the bulldozers to clear areas in the area of the accident at the Fukushima nuclear power plant. [6]
