This was a project I wanted to complete for the Portrait of the Future challenge, sadly I didn’t have enough time to start it, and this just a proof of concept.
I wanted to combine some real scan data with a 3D model of my own making in a new workflow.
I used 3DSlicer to grab some CT and MRI sagittal head scans and combine some slices in GIMP. I ended up using this as a bump texture and input for the color.
As a proof of concept, none of this is meant to be anatomically accurate. I modelled the head and retopologised it in Blender, and reused a procedural material for the eye from another project. The topology of the head isn’t very good. Looking forward to next retopo project.
Using the hounsfield units from the CT/MRI image I used a coloramp to separate some of the anatomical structures. However there are many inconsistencies you might notice! This is not a good way of labeling anatomy :)
I pushed around some geometry to accentuate some of the cavities (nasopharynx, sinuses…, etc. ).
