More model informationThe rock platform at Swansea Heads is comprised of the Reid’s Mistake member of the Boolaroo Formation - in turn part of the Newcastle Coal Measures. Rock types present include sandstone, carbonaceous shale, coal, tuff (volcanic ash) and conglomerate. Much of the platform and cliff section is made of volcanic ash, erupted from a volcano some 250 million years ago. A nearby volcano erupted ash across a peat swamp (represented by the coal seam), burying a forest in the process. Over 100 fossil logs and tree stumps have been identified in the ash layer - their orientation can be used to estimate the direction of the blast. These logs are one example of the remains of that forest.
Lens cap is 62 millimetres in diameter.
