@Andywoodhead Fabulous! Now uploaded another Sarmatian beauty
@Digor That's great Igor - many thanks. Will let you know how I get on - may also do the quiver and arrows!
@Andywoodhead Andy, good afternoon! I will be happy with the new reconstruction! The Sarmatians had narrow hands, like musicians. Now only a teenager can hold such a handle! Different ornaments are often found on the hilts of swords and daggers, so I doubt that the ornamented hilt was hidden. There are no traces of wood or leather straps on the hilts of swords and daggers. There are remains of wooden scabbards. Wrist straps were common, which made it possible not to drop the sword after a blow. Often such straps are decorated with metal frills (bronze, silver, or gold). This warrior has bronze worms. In one of the letters I already attached books, but I will send more. All the best!
Hi Igor. This is a great scan. I would like to make a reconstruction model of the sword and am trying to work out what the hilt would have looked like - a wooden sleeve around it? - or perhaps a leather strap round around the iron core? If you could point me to any reference images this would be great. I really enjoy seeing the objects you unearth - you come up with some amazing finds. Many thanks.
