The T29 heavy tank was an American heavy tank project begun in March 1944 to counter the new German heavy tanks. The T26E3, weighing about 45 tons, was not considered to have enough firepower and armor to fight the Tiger II, weighing nearly 70 tons. The T29 did not participate in World War II.
