Halysite corals are commonly known as chain corals given their distinctive growth of linked corallites. They lived between the Ordovician and Devonian periods before going extinct approximately 412 million years ago. Tabulate corals are best known for being the major constructors of the planet’s first coral reefs during the Silurian period.
