Tefillin originally gifted to Menachem Silberstein by Rabbi Weiss in the Lake District in 1945.
Menachem originally came to Windermere as part of the Windermere Boys following the Holocaust. The Tefillin was donated to the Lake District Holocaust project by the family of Manachem as they felt it was appropriate that these objects should “go back to Windermere”.
These are hugely important objects and held huge significance for Menachem at the time and remained so all his life. One can only imagine how it felt for him to revieve this items in the Lake District after so much tragedy and so many years of persecution.
This object is curently on display at the Lake District Holocaust Project exhibit in Windermere, UK.
