More model informationThe “Blackened Canteen” is a symbol representing peace, courage, and reconciliation between the United States and Japan after WWII. It is used annually at a ceremony honoring the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.
The canteen, which is said to have the hand imprint of a solidier, was originally found in the reminents of a plane crash that occured during a raid bombing of Shizuoka, Japan. The crash killed 23 U.S. Airman, and the bombing killed over 2000 Japanese citizens.
The “Blackened Canteen” is owned and cared for by Dr. Hiroya Sugano who resides in Japan.
