More model information

The Castle Otway harp is an old Irish harp in the collections of Trinity College Dublin. On 7th April 2022 the harp was 3D scanned by Kevin De Burca of http://3dscanningireland.com for Simon Chadwick and Sylvia Crawford. The scanning was funded by Theodore Jordan and Deborah Norris.

Many thanks to the Board of Trinity College Dublin for giving permission and facilitating this project.

You can see part of the scanning process on-site in TCD Library at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3ny2taiako

The Castle Otway harp has a very shiny surface and so there were problems capturing some of the surface details. The model here has interpolated surfaces which join the scanned edges and corners. The base of the harp especially is mostly interpolated.

You can read my commentary and download printable plans for harpmakers at https://simonchadwick.net/castle-otway-harp-plans

The scan is marked cc-by but as it is just a 3D representation of a historical object I believe it should be cc-0 (public domain).
