The Motherland Monument (Ukrainian: Батьківщина-Мати, Russian: Родина-мать) is an imposing statue located in Kyiv, Ukraine’s capital.
This monumental sculpture is part of the Museum of The History of Ukraine in World War II, Kyiv. Made from stainless steel, the statue itself stands 62 meters (203 feet) tall atop the museum building, making the entire structure 102 meters (335 feet) high and weighing 560 tons. The statue’s right hand wields a 16-meter (52 feet) long sword weighing 9 tons, while the left hand raises a 13 by 8-meter (43 by 26 feet) shield featuring the State Emblem of the Soviet Union. Inside the museum’s Memorial Hall, marble plaques display the carved names of over 11,600 soldiers and more than 200 home-front workers who were honored during the war with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and Hero of Socialist Labor.
