Area of outcrop found S of The Rigg, SW of Lartington, County Durham.
This section is one of many areas of the same exposure of outcrop adorned with carvings, usually separated by either fissures or turf coverage. Referenced 5 in Beckensall & Laurie’s 2008 publication ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’, the carving was added to ERA by NADRAP in 2008 as ‘Lartington, The Rigg 7’. NADRAP describe:
“Motifs consist of one cup and ring, four single cups and a single cup with connecting grooves. One or two natural basins can also be seen.”
All the published archives record the motifs differently for this section.
