More model informationThis model demonstrates the second step in working out the ‘3 point problem’. The plane defined by the triangle in step 1 has been extended by constructing structure contours. The line of intersection (annotation 6) between the topographic surface (green) and structure surface (transparent blue plane) represents the trace of the lithological boundary between limestone below & shale above. The boundary can now be drawn on the surface with the position information from just three points of outcrop.
The topographic surface represents and area of approximately 1.8 × 2.8 kilometres. Initial view is looking toward the northeast corner of the map area. Contour interval is 100 metres.
