Modeled on forged iron boat axes or hatchets carried by early fur traders, the tomahawk evolved into something very different in the eastern woodlands. Combining the chopping power of a European hand axe with the ability to be thrown like a pre-existing First Nations weapons. The result became one of the most famous weapons in North American history.
