The barkentine Trade Wind was built in 1853 in Stoney Creek, NY. Not much more is written about this ship except it sank in a collision with the brig Charles Napier in a blinding snow storm in 1854 off Long Point, Lake Erie. The captain of the Napier hailed the crew of the Trade Wind after the collision to see what damage had been done, but the crew was too busy trying to fix the damage and launch the lifeboats to answer. The Napier proceeded on its way to repair its damage. The collision damaged the Trade Wind’s yawl boat, but fortunately two government life boats were part of the freight they were carrying along with stoves and railroad iron. The ship sank but the crew survived in the government life boats. The model was created from 1,475 30 megapixel images shot by Andrew Goodman and Tamara Thomsen with surface support from Carrie Sowden and Ken Merryman in the 2023 season.
