The 163 ft Troy was built in 1849 and is one of the very early steamer designs. It was carrying passengers and wheat in 1859 in a storm when it foundered 10 miles off Pte Aux Barques. MI. Eighteen of 26 persons aboard were lost, 5 were rescued, 3 in yawlboat blown across lake to Canadian shore. This shipwreck we call Troy today may or may not be the real Troy. There is a debate whether this wreck or the unidentified Thumb Wreck, discovered in 2020 by David Trotter which is in our database, is the real Troy. It is believed one is the Troy and the other is the Bucephalus which also foundered in the area. Truthfully there are compelling arguments on both sides. Hopefully there will be some resolution in the future but we may never be absolutely certain which is which. The model was created from 2,299 30 megapixel images shot on one DPV dive by Andrew Goodman in the 2023 season. The model includes a scale bar and has been calibrated so measurements can be made in Metashape Professional.
