Turner River Mound Complex3D ModelNoAI
Turner River Mound Complex (EVER37, 8CR2) is in Everglades National Park. Using aerial LiDAR, we created a 3D digital terrain surface that exaggerates elevation to showcase this prehistoric shellwork’s surface features, microtopography, and extensive shell and earthen mound constructed architecture complex. It also contains a tabby cistern and a historic house site atop the prehistoric mounds. The island’s cultural resources were surveyed using GIS, aerial LiDAR, terrestrial laser scanning, and field verification with GPS in a project collaboration with USF CDHGI and the National Park Service. The erosion of the island from storms and rising sea levels is ongoing. This exaggerated 3D elevation model highlights the structural elements of the site, and is shown in reference to a historic aerial image from 1962.
