Type Chase

Chases like this one are used to hold type in a letterpress. The type is supported by blocks of wood, known as furniture, and are locked in places by quoins. When a chase is locked up with type, furniture, and quoins, it is called a forme. This chase has been made up with type and furniture for an event at the Silk Mill museum. The type is set up to print ‘STEAM UP’.
