Vilagrassa is a small town in mainland Catalonia. A year ago, on October 1st of 2017, a massive self-determination referendum took place in the whole of Catalonia. The Spanish government officially forbade it, but people self-organised to make it happen. Despite a brutal, violent police repression the referendum still happened and voting took place. A year later, all manner of citizens, from farmers, to students and housewives, promoted around the country all sorts of events to celebrate that referendum, which will forever be in Catalan collective memory. In Vilagrassa a mural painting was created to remember that democratic feat.
