Arctodus was a genus of bear from the Middle to Late Pleistocene of North America. Also known as the short-faced bear, Arctodus has two species: the lesser short-faced bear, and the giant short-faced bear, considered one of the largest terrestrial carnivoran mammals. These animals weighed 900 to 950 kilograms (close to one Imperial ton) at adult size, and was a hypercarnivore. This specimen shows the femoral head.
