Crocodylidae, also known as crocodiles, is a family of semi-aquatic predatory reptiles within the Crocodilia that include modern-day crocodiles. The Crocodylidae first appeared in the Eocene, and are found throughout tropical environments across the world. Crocodiles are best distinguished by their narrower heads and v-shaped snouts compared to alligators. This specimen is a dermal scute, which acts as armor for the animal.
