Mammuthus was a genus of proboscidean mammal from the early Pliocene to the Holocene of 4,000 years ago, and were found in North America, Eurasia, and Africa. Also known as mammoths, Mammuthus is very closely related to modern-day elephants, and looked similarly to them aside from more distinct hair covering and smaller ear lobes. Anthropological evidence of mammoth-human interactions exist as wall paintings, injuries on mammoth remains, and usage of mammoth materials in clothes, tools, and weapons of ancient people.
