Lepus is a genus of lagomorph rodents that includes jackrabbits and hares, and are local to North America, Eurasia, and Africa and have been introduced to New Zealand. There is molecular evidence for Lepus appearing approximately 8.6 million years ago in the late Miocene in Eurasia. Hares and jackrabbits are different from true rabbits in having babies that can fend for themselves, larger body sizes, and jointed skulls. This specimen is a humerus.
