More model informationVarved shales form in a glacial environment and each ‘varve’ represents a sequence of annual deopisits. Spring meltwaters flood glacial lakes and shallow marine areas bringing a mixture of fine and some coarser sediments. The coarser components deposit first, followed by finer silt and clay layers that take longer to deposit. Varved shales are quite common in the late Palaeozoic of Australia.
