Veles is a Slavic God who shields cattle, herds of sheep, possessions, crops, and is the ruler of the dead. In the understanding of the ancient Slavs, death is the natural cycle and the underworld with a beautiful meadow full of peace and abundance. Above the souls of the dead, the powerful god Veles is ruling in his evergreen kingdom. Veles is also associated with a cult of prolific power. Its counterpoint is Perun the sun god. However, the daily life of the Slavs influenced more lower-order creatures, inhabiting most of the immediate surroundings of man than the gods. These creatures known today primarily from fairy tales (fairies, elves, forest idols)
