Vanguard Exploration Project Structure XVI: Bipedal Reconnaissance Mech

The Recon Mech was designed to venture beyond the perimeter of a settlement to ascertain potential threats to Explorers’ wellbeing, as well as to collect resources beneficial for scientific study or industry. The Mech’s lightweight, titanium-alloy chassis boasts two Class I laser cannons used as non-lethal deterrants to hostile wildlife. The unit is capable of reaching ground speeds in excess of 65 miles per hour. Should an Explorer find his or herself in a dangerous situation, with a low probability of escape, he or she can initialize the Mech’s “bracer” mode. Once activated, this mode realigns the unit’s posture to lower its center of gravity, converting it from a mobile vehicle to a stationary bunker. A distress signal is immediatly broadcast and all non-essential systems are temporarily shut down. An Explorer can survive inside a Recon Mech for up to 96 hours while awaiting incoming support.
