Viking Age Millstone3D Model
The scan of the Viking Age Millstone (SH 9999-27.210) from the Viking Museum Haithabu was made on 03/13/2024 for inclusion in the Virtual Viking Longship Project. Disc-shaped, with a round axle hole in the center. Mica slate with garnets. Width 210 mm, height. 70 mm. Quern and millstones from Hyllestad were widely distributed, and were parts of an international trade network in the Viking Age and the Middle Ages. The stones from Hyllestad are found in large parts of Norway, but they were also exported to Sweden, Denmark, Northern Germany and the North Atlantic Islands. Scanning was accomplished with the Creaform Academia 50 handheld 3D scanner and edited in VXelements and VXModel 11 with minor texture map editing and converting done in GIMP.
