Volcanic Bomb from Tenerife (NHMW-Min F6570)3D Model
3D Scan of a Volcanic bomb from Tenerife, Canary Islands. Volcanic bombs usually have a round or drop-like shape. They consist of solidified lava and were ejected from the erupting volcano while still viscous. This one and several other bombs have been collected by Prof. Oscar Simony during his various expeditions to the Canary Islands between 1888 and 1890. Later they were given to the NHM Vienna as a present. Prof. Berwerth performed scientific research and documented these bombs with pictures. Some of the specimens were selected for the exhibition.
This volcanic bomb from Tenerife and 3 others can be found in Hall 4 of the NHM Vienna.
