Evolution of seismicity in the area of Grindavik, Iceland between Oct.10-Nov. 19, 2023 (UTC time).

NOTE: The event depths were reported to the nearest kilometer only. We have shifted each event randomly up or down by up to 1 km.
The early events (blue colors) occurred beneath Fagradalsfjall. Seismicity then migrated westward toward Svartsengi (green, yellow). Around 2023-11-10 12:00, you can see the beginning of intrusion of the dyke that extends beneath Grindavik. Seismicity propagated both northeast and southwest from the initiation area as the dyke intruded (light red). As of November 19, smaller magnitude seismicity continues in the same initiation area (dark red).
