VR Tour of a Dugout Canoe from Florida3D ModelNoAI
This wooden canoe was discovered one day after Hurricane Irma battered the east coast of Florida, washing up on a shoreline road next to the Indian River Lagoon in Brevard County.Photographer, Randy Lathrop was out on a bike ride in the aftermath of the storm and found the vessel, reporting it to the State of Florida Division of Historical Resources. Working with state and local archaeologists, including Thomas Penders, the University of South Florida Libraries used 3D and specialized imaging to document the canoe. The resulting models and CAD drawings will be used for research, conservation and preservation strategies, and condition assessment, and will be integral to interpretation and education efforts.
