The 136 ft canal schooner Walter B. Allen was built in 1866 in Ogdensburgh, NY. In 1880 while enroute from Chicago to Bufalo with a load of wheat, it stranded on South Manitou Island. Tug Caroline Williams from Manistee was hired to tow it back to Manitowoc, WI for repairs. The towing company installed a large donkey boiler and steam pump to keep the schooner afloat during transport. On the way across Lake Michigan they encountered a NW gale which washed the deck of the schooner extinguishing the boiler fire leaving the schooner with no way to pump out the incoming water. The crew were rescued by the tug but the W. B. Allen sank off shore. Today it is a popular dive site in Wisconsin, The 2,961 27 -megapixel GoPro images for the model were shot by Zac Whitrock who also processed the model,
