A Roman copper-alloy mount, dating to circa AD 43 - 410.
A broadly circular mount with decoration and enamel inlay on the front face. The design consists of a central square that is slightly recessed with a coloured border. The circumference of the mount has the same width and coloured border. Each corner of the square has a small linear rib joining the square to the outer border. Surounding the square within the outer border are enamelled cells. Most of the colour has been lost now, although there are tiny traces of red enamel.
In the centre of the reverse is an incomplete integral attachment lug. The lug is cylindrical in shape and measures 4.4 mm in diameter. The lug would presumably have allowed the decorative mount to be attached to another larger object such as a box, vessel or leather strap. The object has worn edges. The reverse face has a dark green coloured surface patina.
