使い込んだ辞書 Well thumbed dictionary

ライターの養成所に行っていたときに使っていた辞書。何度も引っ越しをしたが、連れてきていた。いま仕事で企画をしたりいろいろなことをしているんだけど、言葉を調べるということが、自分の核にあるんだ。紙は、指を当ててページをパラパラする、その感触が気持ちいい。電子書籍にも挑戦してみたけど、小説でも、登場人物の名前がごちゃごちゃになっちゃったときとか、手の感覚で物語の前後がわかるから、私は紙のほうが好き。床においてたりするから、気づいたら娘がいたずらをしてて、たくさん補修をしてある。

The dictionary I used when I was in writer’s training school. I moved many times, but I kept it with me. I’m doing a lot of planning and stuff at work now, and looking up words is at the core of what I do. Paper feels good when I put my finger on it and flip through the pages. I’ve tried e-books, but I prefer paper because I can tell the story backwards and forwards by the feel of my hand, even in novels when I get the names of the characters mixed up. I would often put the book on the floor, and I noticed that my daughter has been playing with it, so I have made a lot of repairs.
