Panel recorded as being in a ‘dyke’ W of Lordenshaw multivallate hillfort, on Garleigh Moor, S of Rothbury, Northumberland.
Referenced ‘West Lordenshaw 2e’ on the Beckensall Archive (BA) it’s described as having 19 cups of varying size. NADRAP added the record to ERA in 2008, describing:
“The central area of the rock appears damaged or eroded differently to the rest. Motifs consist of six possible cup marks and numerous other, possibly, natural depressions.”
Could the damage be bullet impacts? Some of the cup profiles do look reminiscent of worn projectile impacts with secondary fracturing in and around the edge.
