Boulder / outcrop on M.O.D land, near West Loups, N of Cotherstone, County Durham.
This stone is a scheduled monument, but doesn’t appear in either ‘Prehistoric Rock Art of County Durham, Swaledale and Wensleydale’ or ‘Prehistoric Rock Art in the Northern Dales’ publications. NADRAP recorded the stone ‘West Loups’s 1’ and added the record to ERA in 2008, noting:
‘All of the cup-like depressions are extremely friable with several exhibiting quartz pebbles protruding from the bottom. Due to the friability of the rock and weathering it would be difficult to say that any features are definitely carved.’
