I really like low poly stuff, I already modeled a few easy props and wanted to try something more organic. I don’t know how Wingull came to mind but it’s cute so why not. It turned out to be a bit more challenging than I thought…
Issues
I did not set up reference images so I’m not really sure about proportions, the topology sucks, the face is too lowpoly and when looking from an angle you can see the eyes are distorted (see also the curved line on the beak). UV layout could be slightly better, feet outline is not the same size as the body outline. Also I spent way too many hours working on this model, but this was a bit out of my comfort zone so I can’t complain.
Positive things
I mirrored half the model to also have mirrored UVs, I know it’s standard practice for optimization, but I don’t always do it and in this case was a good choice.
I should not expect things to come out perfect every time, here I was slapped in the face by my lack of practice but it was fun, I want to model more :)
