Two fragments (found 1989 and 1993) of a small hammer-headed cross in local Silurian stone, surviving height 32cm, width 23cm, thickness 5.5 to 4.5cm. In the center is a small boss surrounded by two pecked circles. The cross arms are slightly expanded, as is the lower side of the hammer-head, which extends the full width of the cross arms. The area below the cross arms is lowered by pecking. The shaft, narrower than the cross arms, has lightly pecked diagonal lines, possibly double-twist interlace, within a frame. A marginal pecked groove runs down the side of the stone. The face has two patches of wear damage. The back and surviving side are undecorated. The worked face exhibits high competency. Found re-used in the foundations of a smithy annexe west of a recent building east of the church. This item is curated by Stranraer Museum, Dumfries and Galloway Arts and Museum Service and was scanned with the permission of the Stranraer Museum and Dumfries and Galloway Council.Artec Leo,Artec Studio Pro 18 & Geomagic.
