Wmid-0e688e - Roman Head stud brooch3D Model
An incomplete copper alloy Headstud style brooch, of Roman dating (AD 75 - AD 200).
The bow head is angular (comma shaped) in profile. The headloop at the top of the brooch is incomplete, and is circular . The bow is decorated by a rectangular decorative headstud. Below the headstud, the bow has been decorated by a column of lozenges running vertically down the bow. No signs of enamel are present within the recessed cells. Two horizontal ribs are present at the base of the bow, just above the foot. The wings have been decorated with a vertical rouletted rib. The original hinge fitting for the pin are present, consisting of the axis bar. The back of the brooch is undecorated. The catch plate is incomplete, consisting of a vertical ridge. The foot of the brooch consists of a pronounced flat knop. The brooch has been bent almost in half, with the foot parallel to the head.
