WMID-36B701 - Medieval shield weight

A complete lead alloy trade weight dating to the Medieval to Post Medieval period (c. AD 1350 - 1500).

The weight is shield shaped with rounded edges and corners and a bordered raised upper surface. This surface is decorated with a faint raised moulded design of three lions passant. The sunken border has a slightly raised outer edge and within is a moulded pellet border. The upper surface contains an rectangular perforation. Surface cuts and nicks are present on all sides of the weight. The reverse is flat and undecorated.
