More model informationA decorated spindle whorl, SF15 (1004), weighing 19g and measuring 29mm in diameter and 9mm thick. The stone is buff coloured shale, ranging from pinkish to light brown, with very occasional mica inclusions. Both faces have a series of dot indentations, c 3mm diameter, around the face situated between the perforation and edge of the whorl. The perforation is 8mm in diameter and faintly bi-conical. The whorl has been well used, with both the perforation and the outer edge being highly polished as a result. The dot decoration is worn on both faces and the edges abraded. The decoration on the whorl is not common, with plain whorls being more often recorded.
