More model informationA right molar from a Wooly Mammoth (Mammuthus primigenius). Mammoths could go through six sets of teeth in their life, with the sixth and final set coming in at around 30 years of age. The tooth is composed of compressed enamel plates, held together with cementum–creating a strong, tall, wear-resistant, hypsodont (shallow-rooted) tooth. Though initially quite featured, the teeth take on their flat appearnance (with low enamel ridges) from consuming grasses.
