More model informationThis is the the World War One Memorial Plaque (also known as the “Dead Man’s Penny”, the “Death Penny”, “Death Plaque” or “Widow’s Penny”) and is made from Bronze. My Great Uncle, George William Charles, was 22 years of age and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Charles from Widnes. He was killed in action in France by shrapnel from a bursting shell on 13th February 1916, whilst serving in the 183rd Company, Army service Corps, as a driver of transport wagons.
